Paintball Barrel Help for Tippmann 98 Custom Pro?
I recently purchased a TIppmann 98 Custom Pro and I am brand new to the sport of paintball. I played with a rental about a month ago at my local field and my biggest complaint was that the guns were so innaccurate. I think its because they only had 8.5 inch barrels on them. What is a good barrel for my gun that is affordable(I don't have the kind of money for a flatline). Thanks.
For $30-60, you can get a great barrel from J&J (ceramic lined), Blackcell/SpecOps, Lapco, Smart Parts, 32 degrees, and even Tippmann makes a nice upgrade barrel for the 98CP, called the 98 C Werks- it is about $53 and works very well from what I've read/heard.
I wouldn't go longer than 14-16" on a barrel if you like to shoot longball/from a distance/snipe (anything longer actally slows down the ball and hurts range), and I'd go much shorter if you like to run and gun. I have a flatline for normal use, and a few other sizes down to a 4-incher I use for indoor/close quarters.
Also remember that it is not just barrel length that affects accuracy- you need to use good quality paint that fits your barrel properly, not too tight or too loose. Some manufacturers recommend paint for their barrels, or you can ask for advice on a paintball website/forum once you buy your barrel.
You can also get an adpater for $15 that will let you use any A5/X7 barrel on your gun. Hope this helps and happy 'ballin!
