Being caught wearing the wrong tie isn't any fun. This accessory holds more power in itself than it looks like. More than telling people, about your fashion sense (if you have one), it also gives away a chip of your personality. Ties give an impression, that's why it is essential to wear them appropriately.
But there are many occasions in our modern life that would require a man to wear a tie. Even little boys get to experience that. There are several important events in your life that you wouldn't want to mess up, particularly with your attire. Dressing up is undeniably important. Your attire will never fail to make the first impression about you. In this case, picking out the right tie for a particular occasion is a good skill to master.
When going to a job interview, in general, the executive look works well especially for corporate jobs. In this case, the classic two-piece business suit is perfect. Neutral colors like black, gray, or dark blue for the suit with white dress shirt are easy to pair with a classic silk tie. Choose classic colors like burgundy red or navy blue. Avoid loud, flashy, and bright colors like green or pink. For the design, you can either have solid colors or stripped patterns but keep it simple. Never wear novelty ties with any professional attire.
The classic and traditional suit is ideal for business meetings and most corporate events, especially formal ones. Go for classic solid colored ties too with classic colors. The contemporary business attire, however, lets you have light colored dress shirt with your business suit. In this case, you can choose a tie with the same color but with a different shade. Light unconventional colors like green, yellow, or orange is permissible.
For a romantic date, your attire would be dependent whether it is a very formal, formal, semi-formal or casual occasion. Again, suit and tie are good but the typical business attire is fashionably inappropriate and boring. Consider also if it is a daytime or evening date. Lighter colored suits are mostly preferred during the day while dark colored suits are best for evening affairs. Examples of light colors are beige or light gray, tan or light brown. Colored dress shirts are better alternatives to white, you can even choose patterned design like checkers and stripes.
As for ties, light colored ties are nice. Make sure the tie compliments the theme or color of your suit and other accessories. The tie's design should also contrast with the design of your shirt.
Funerals are solemn occasions so no other colors other than black - black suit, white dress, and solid black tie.
One of the special events we attend to are wedding. If it is not a black tie, which is a tuxedo and bow tie, you can take your cue from the motif of the event. Solid colored ties are appropriate and many weddings have color themes which are followed by the groom and his groomsmen. Popular colors are bright colors like yellow, pink, orange, lavender, etc.
