Composing backing tracks online is currently the best way to make professional quality music for your project, especially one with a consistent rhythm. However, writing music that has the richest sounds and an intelligent, creative arrangement of sounds can be a challenge. To make a memorable and catchy track that rises above the multitude of beats which are generated and published, you have to choose the best samples and insert them tastefully into your music.
Approaching the ways in which you place your sonic elements into your composition will greatly assist you in creating a professional track. The most typical method is to start with the basic rhythmic elements, using the most root sounds of the beat and construct around it. For example, take a bass drum sample you like and build a basic rhythm upon which to stack other sonic textures. For a more jazzy sound emphasize the one and the three beats; for a rock sound, strengthen the two and the four. Alternating strong accents and inserting sounds off the main beats or a combining these ideas give you the freedom to make your beats more unique.
Another way is to start with placing the primary melodic elements into your beat first, then embellishing that with rhythmic accents and other sounds. Using an arpeggio or a sample tuned to a specific note, for instance, you can insert it on the beats to create the melodic structure of the track. Then add the rhythmic "flag posts" to that in order to strengthen the melody and tweak it from there. Certain samples are short in length, say one beat long, while others have a longer duration, spanning more than one beat or full length of the track's phrase. Combining these with each other to create a sonic composite of melodic factors can punctuate phrasing inside the overall arc of the backing track. Accenting with rhythmic elements will strengthen your music; placing sounds off the beats or phrase highlights can be just as or more effective than underpinning the beats or melody directly. Try different approaches and see which ones sound best. I find that often a combination of various elements makes your beat sound the strongest.
Picking your samples is equally as important as inserting them into your tracks. Selecting a full range of frequencies intelligently located within the sequence is the best plan. Listen closely to the timbres and tones of the sounds you wish to add and then choose different samples that compliment and support your main sound choices. Higher pitched samples laid over deep low pitched samples obviously complement each other, but you may also want to use complimentary samples that are similar in frequency range if they combine to create a new, unique timbre. Smart and creative placement of sounds supporting each other and using the frequencies of the sounds to your advantage will increase the professional presentation of your track.
Counter balancing high and low pitch, however, is not the only way to get sounds to compliment or support one another. Keep in mind that the timbre and tone of a sound are created by the shape and form of waves and how they interact. A harsher sample and a mellower sample with similar frequencies can complement each other well, even more so than severe frequency differences. Try listening to samples by themselves and add another, one at a time, to hear how they work together in the mix. "Stack" two at a time until you get two that combine comfortably to your ear and then add the next sounds using the same approach until complete your track. Be careful not to over work or unnecessarily clutter the music, but ensure it is busy enough to remain interesting and powerful. Creating a sparse beat if fine; creating a weak one is not.

You can make tracks that are professional quality by following these suggestions and these approaches will help you come up with, fresh, new ideas!
