In fact, during this time many saw the Athletics as little more than a farm team for the more popular New York Yankees.
It wasn't till the team was moved to Oakland in 1971 that things began to change for the Athletics. Despite their reputation, a number of baseball fans still purchased Oakland Athletics tickets and were not disappointed. The Athletics stormed onto the field, picking up World Series wins in 1972 and again in 1973. The former 'farm team' of the Yankees had proved that it had muscle of its own.
