Top Baseball
Growing up all that I wanted to do is play baseball, and one of my favorite things to do was break in a new glove. Over my twenty years of existence I have heard and seen some very different ways to make your glove feel right on your hand. From putting special oil on your glove and throwing it in the oven, to letting it soak in shaving cream overnight. But before doing any of the methods I am about to tell you about, see what the manufacturer suggests first.
1.) The shaving cream method. I have only heard of this one once, but all you need is a five gallon bucket and two cans of foam style shaving cream. Do NOT use shaving gels. First empty one of the cans of shaving cream into the five gallon bucket. Then take your new glove and put and old baseball or softball in the packet and tie the glove shut. Next throw the glove in the bucket of shaving cream and empty the second can on top of the baseball glove. Let the baseball glove sit overnight, then next day most of the shaving cream should be melted. Your glove with be soaked, but don't worry just put it in a room that is dry and about room temperature. Your glove may take a day or two to dry, but the outcome is a soft glove that has a pocket just the way you wanted it.
2.) Vaseline method. Rub a good portion of this in the palm and the area you want to form a good pocket. The pocket can be found by a diagonal line between where your pointer finger meets your hand to the corner of the palm opposite your thumb. Once you have rubbed a good amount into the pocket of the glove go out and have a catch. When your done tossing the baseball around throw a baseball in the pocket and tie it shut for a couple of weeks.
3.) Saddle soap. This method of softening the glove is applied just like the Vaseline method. Work the oil into the pocket of the glove and keep bending the glove at the flex point. But be careful do not use to much, using to much may cause the padding in the glove to absorb the oil and be heavier.
4.) Manufacturers Solution. Most of the major glove manufacturers make their own oils that they recommend the buy uses to break in and soften the leather. You can walk into any sporting goods store and find all of the major manufacturers oils right on the shelves.
5.) Mink Oil or Neatsfoot Oil. Both of these oils are great for softening and preserving leather. It allows the leather of the glove to become much more flexible and even makes it a little waterproof. Both of these oils are easily absorbed by leather, so be careful. It will eat away at non synthetic stitching on the glove.

7.) Hot Glove treatment. Although it may sound a little awkward. It does work. I was first introduced to it by my friend's dad who played in the minors for a few years. Simply apply the product to the glove and place it in the oven for four minutes at three hundred degrees. But use caution the glove is going to be hot when it comes out of the oven.
Those are a few ways that I have heard of and seen to break in a baseball glove. Whatever way you choose to break in your glove is up to you.
